Introduction
Thank you for taking the time to familiarize yourself with the master plan process and future goals of Manitou Springs School District!
In October 2022, Manitou Springs School District began the journey of updating their Facilities Master Plan. In response to the unsuccessful bond election in 2021 and community sentiment regarding direction, the District moved to build upon and update the 2020 Facilities Master Plan. This updated plan serves as the framework for change and future decision making. It was created in collaboration with the school board, district personnel, parents and the professional planning and design team.

Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Manitou Springs Community,
Welcome to our Facilities Master Plan page—and thank you for taking the time to engage with this important work. In Manitou Springs School District 14, we believe our schools are more than just buildings. They are the heart of our community—places where learning, growth, and connection happen every day. For generations, our facilities have supported students, families, and staff, and they continue to reflect the pride and values of Manitou Springs.
As our buildings age, it’s essential that we care for them with the same dedication we give to our students. Many of our facilities are over 60 years old, and while they’ve served us well, they now require significant upgrades to remain safe, functional, and inspiring learning environments. Through our Facilities Master Plan, we’ve conducted a thorough assessment of every site in the district—including classrooms, common areas, and our athletic facilities to identify areas of deferred maintenance and opportunities for improvement.
This work is about more than just repairs. It’s about ensuring that every student learns in a safe, welcoming, and equitable environment. It’s about maintaining spaces that support collaboration, creativity, and academic excellence. And it’s about being responsible stewards of our community’s resources—planning wisely for the future while honoring the legacy of our past.
To move this vision forward, Manitou Springs School District 14 will be asking voters to consider a bond proposal in November 2025. This bond is a critical investment in our schools and will fund essential upgrades across the district, including:
Protecting student and staff safety by adding security enhancements such as updated entry systems, security cameras, and other building safety improvements.
Addressing districtwide facility needs by replacing and repairing deteriorating roofs and aging mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems to ensure our schools remain safe, efficient, and fully operational.
Improving accessibility through renovations that increase ADA compliance—particularly in restrooms, classrooms, and other commonly used areas—so that all students and visitors can navigate our schools with dignity and ease.
Maintaining learning environments that reflect the needs of today’s learners, with spaces that support collaboration and engagement.
These improvements are not optional—they are essential. They will help us avoid costly emergency repairs, reduce energy inefficiencies, and ensure that our schools remain vibrant centers of learning for years to come.
In the months ahead, we’ll be seeking input from families, staff, students, and community members. Your voices are vital in shaping this work. We are committed to transparency, collaboration, and thoughtful planning, and we want this process to reflect the values and priorities of the Manitou Springs community.
Together, we can ensure our schools continue to inspire learning and reflect the pride we all share in our district. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Manitou Springs School District 14.
