Helen Hunt Community Center Renovation

Colorado Springs, CO

Why

Connecting through experience of place.

Originally constructed in 1903 with an additional building constructed on the campus in 1966, the Helen Hunt Elementary School permanently closed its doors in May of 2016. Shortly after, the John E. and Margaret L. Lane Foundation purchased the property for $1 from Colorado Springs School District 11 with the promise to commit $2 million to renovate the property.

How

Ever curious. Ever learning. Ever improving.

RTA worked closely with the Lane Foundation and the non-profit tenants to turn it into a nonprofit campus that benefits the entire inner-city neighborhood.

What

Purposeful, engaging solutions.

This 25,000 SF campus was transformed to affordable spaces for a medical clinic, and a mix of nonprofit users. There are four nonprofit organizations housed on the campus including Catholic Charities, Community Partnership for Child Development (CPCD) Head Start, Colorado Springs Food Rescue, Peak Parent, and The Shandy Clinic.
