Hibbard Building Renovation

Colorado Springs, CO

Why

Connecting through experience of place.

This landmark building has been a Downtown Colorado Springs fixture for over 100 years. It originally operated as a family-owned department store until its closing in 1996. In 2001, RTA looked at the building’s potential for loft housing and office space, and, together with the Hibbard family, determined that office use would be the most economical and efficient choice for the space.

How

Ever curious. Ever learning. Ever improving.

RTA provided the planning, interior design, and complete shell renovation for the project. The goal was to keep the character of the original building, while also facilitating new uses and multi-tenant flexibility. New steel, brick, and granite materials were combined to create separate building and restaurant entrances while maintaining the revised platform display-like windows of an earlier time.

What

Purposeful, engaging solutions.

With an open floor plan and ample light, the resulting office spaces are inviting with a nod to the building’s rich history. The new and improved storefront has given the passerby a glimpse into Colorado Spring’s past and helps maintain the historic feel of downtown.
