Inspiring Students with the McAuliffe Elementary STEAM Door
April 10, 2026
Inspiring young minds to explore what is imaginable, what is possible, and what is truly achievable, the RTA-designed STEAM Door at D-11’s McAuliffe Elementary School proves that great design can be both functional and fun.
Eight feet tall and weighing in at nearly 800 lbs, the custom sliding door ignites intrigue and wonder while at the same time teaching concepts of geometry, mechanical advantage, hydraulic mechanism, color theory, and counterintuitive motion. More than a passageway from the media center to the classroom, this magnificent portal transports students from the school environment to future innovative self-expression.
