This landmark building has been a downtown Colorado Springs fixture since its construction in 1894, operating as a family-owned department store until its closing in 1998. RTA provided the planning, interior design, and complete shell renovation, keeping the character of the original building while facilitating new uses and multi-tenant flexibility.

New steel, brick, and granite materials were combined to create separate building and restaurant entrances while maintaining the revised platform display-like windows of an earlier time. The resulting “new” storefront has given the passerby a glimpse into Colorado Spring’s rich past and helps maintain the historic feel of downtown.
