RTA worked in collaboration with HKS on this 185,840 sq. ft. addition which provides 36 new beds each for the Critical Care and Cardiovascular units on the second and third floors, respectively. Because the same footprint was used on each floor, the Cardiovascular rooms can be easily converted to Critical Care rooms if needed.

Arranging the 36 beds on each floor in a linear fashion provides greater flexibility in patient placement and staffing. Patient charting areas between each pair of rooms enables direct observation of patients without having to disrupt them.

By housing doctors on-site, Penrose Hospital has dramatically improved patient access of physicians.
